Hardie's Korn Kettle History

Founders Ed Petty and Keith Culverhouse produced their first commercial corn confectionery in 1968 in Lahaska, Pennsylvania and originally called their business the "Nut Kettle". They set out to make the "best-tasting, most wholesome, tastiest popcorn confectionery" available anywhere. In the early '80's Ed and Keith moved westward to Cathedral City, adjacent to Palm Springs, California to continue their gourmet popcorn tradition. After many years of producing the world's best confectionery, they retired in 1991 and passed the tradition on to new owner George G. Hardie, Mayor of Cathedral City at that time. Mr. Hardie, who worked in his family candy-making business in his youth, also had a sweet tooth for specialty foods and a keen sense for entrepreneurial success. He expanded distribution and helped spread the popularity of Hardie's Korn Kettle around the world.

In order to continue making fine, gourmet popcorn, Mr. Hardie opened a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Paramount, California and continues to produce the confectionery the old fashioned way with hand-mixing and careful personal attention to every step of the way in the food making process. The plant now produces over 25 special flavors.

Aware that consumer tastes change and lovers of gourmet popcorn are watchful of nutritional and health concerns, Hardie's Korn Kettle developed a lighter coated popcorn, Sugar Free Almond Pecan Korn, that generated instant appeal and became especially popular with the Asian market overseas. Almond Pecan Korn is sugar-free and is "diabetic friendly." It uses no preservatives.

While market conditions change and customer tastes followed trends, Hardie's Korn Kettle has stayed true to its recipe of choicest ingredients, selected prime nuts, old-fashioned hand-mixing, luxurious coatings, and special "freshness guaranteed" safety-sealed packaging. Because of this dedication to quality, Hardie's Korn Kettle continues to be enjoyed by gourmet popcorn lovers all over the world.
