Chromic Catgut (CC)

DemeTECH
Surgical Sutures / Suturas Quirúrgicas

DemeTECH's Chromic Catgut Sutures (CC)

DemeTECH's Chromic Catgut suture is an absorbable, sterile, surgical suture composed of highly purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from either beef or sheep intestines. DemeTECH's Chromic Catgut is treated with chromium salt solution to resist body enzymes, thereby prolonging the absorption time to over 90 days. The pure collagen ribbons are submerged into chromic solutions, then electronically spun and purified into evenly chromicized strands of Catgut. This chromic covering not only prolongs the strand's integrity, but also minimizes tissue irritation, causing less internal reaction. The percentage of collagen in the catgut suture often determines the quality of the suture. Higher percentages of collagen allow for: superior tensile strength, longer absorption times, and lower reactions in vivo.

Distinctive Characteristics of DemeTECH's Chromic Catgut Sutures:

  • DemeTECH manufactures its Chromic Catgut sutures with the highest quality collagen, maintaining a composition of 97% - 98% of pure collagen.
  • DemeTECH's Chromic Catgut sutures are covered in chromic salt to prolong integrity, minimize tissue reactivity, and minimize the chance of adverse reactions.
  • Tensile strength is retained for up to 14 days, and sometimes as long as 21 days.
  • Allows for smooth passage through tissue.
  • Easy knot tying characteristics.
  • DemeTECH's new technology of chromicizing strands minimizes the possibility of fraying and maximizes the potential and integrity of its Chromic Catgut.

Surgical Sutures / Suturas Quirúrgicas

DemeTECH'S Plain Catgut Sutures (CP)

DemeTECH'S Plain Catgut suture is an absorbable, sterile, surgical suture composed of highly purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from either beef or sheep intestines. Due to an extremely short absorption period, DemeTECH'S Plain Catgut elicits only minimal reaction in tissues. DemeTECH'S Plain Catgut is absorbed more rapidly in infected arenas. As such, DemeTECH'S Plain Catgut will absorb more rapidly in areas where increased levels of enzymes are present. The percentage of collagen in the catgut suture often determines the quality of the suture. Higher percentages of collagen allow for: superior tensile strength, longer absorption times, and lower reactions in vivo.

Distinctive Characteristics of DemeTECH'S Plain Catgut Sutures:
  • DemeTECH manufactures its Chromic Catgut sutures with the highest quality collagen, maintaining a composition of 97% - 98% of pure collagen.
  • DemeTECH's Plain Catgut is rapidly absorbed.

Silk (Braided) (SK)

DemeTECH
Surgical Sutures / Suturas Quirúrgicas

DemeTECH's Silk (Braided) Sutures (SK)

DemeTECH's Silk suture is a non-absorbable, sterile, surgical suture composed of an organic protein called fibroin. DemeTECH's silk sutures are processed to remove the natural waxes and gums from its origin. As Silk is a natural fiber, its does illicit an acute inflammatory reaction, which is followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue (occurring usually in 14-21 days). While DemeTECH's silk sutures are not considered absorbable sutures, progressive degradation of its fibers results in the gradual loss of tensile strength within the first year. DemeTECH's silk sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation.

Distinctive Characteristics of DemeTECH's Silk Multifilament Sutures:
  • Raw silk is produced by a silkworm larva's cocoon. These natural waxes and gums are removed prior to the braiding process, allowing for a tighter, more compact braid.
  • DemeTECH's Silk is dyed black for easier visibility in tissue.
  • DemeTECH's Silk is non-absorbable and multifilament in nature.
  • Although DemeTECH classifies its silk as a non-absorbable suture, it loses most of its tensile strength in one year, and is completely absorbed in 2 years. Thus, DemeTECH's Silk behaves like a very slow absorbing suture.
  • DemeTECH coats its Silk in silicon to limit absorption, increase ductility, and minimize tissue reactivity.

Note: DemeTECH's Silk sutures meet or exceed USP minimums.
